~ Memories of Yesterday ~

I sit here with silent tears in my heart
So many days have now long passed
Since the day we were drawn apart
The shadows in my life now grow long

My hair now the color of silver grey
I cherish the memory of that special day
When the tenderness of those words you did say
You took my heart and carried it away

The passion we felt from within our vanes
The devotion you pledged with your words of love
When you proposed to me under that old oak tree
Standing together in the Autumn rain

The fascination I hold of that time long past
When our love guided us down that unknown path
The memories I will hold ever so dear
Knowing that you were always near

I will never feel that I am ever alone
Sitting here in our old family home
Remembering the time when we were young
When we held our new first born son

Now I wait for you to come
And take my hand and guide me away
To a place where together we will walk again
On that distant horizon when the sun sets on that last day
